At what point did "frankenstein" begin wearing a furry vest, as i've seen him depicted before?

And when did, by default, his name become "frankenstein"?

The furry vest came from the movie, "Son of Frankenstien"...Karloff's last performance as the monster..
The reference to the monster as Frankenstien might have started with "Abbott and Costello meets Frankenstein"...Lou Costello, I think, kept refering to him as Frankenstein.
